Donnie Nietes' Boxing Career
Donnie Nietes was born in Murcia, Negros Occidental, Philippines on May 12, 1982. He made his professional debut at the age of 20 years on April 25, 2003 against Walter Suaybaguio. Nietes defeated Suaybaguio via 6-round unanimous decision, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Nietes became a world champion at the age of 25 after 25 professional fights. He challenged Pornsawan Porpramook for the vacant WBO strawweight title and defeated Porpramook via 12-round unanimous decision, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully conquer the light-flyweight (WBO, The Ring), flyweight (IBF), and super-flyweight (WBO) divisions as well to become a four-division world champion.
Nietes' latest fight was a unanimous decision loss to Kazuto Ioka at age 40, on July 13, 2022, in which he was fighting for the WBO super-flyweight title.
