Ray Mancini (Boom Boom) is a 63-year-old retired American professional boxer. He is a former lightweight world champion. In a career spanning 12 years, 5 months, and 16 days, Mancini amassed a record of 29-5, which includes 23 wins via KO, 5 of which were in world-title fights. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 2015.
Ray Mancini was born in Youngstown, Ohio, U.S. on March 4, 1961. He made his professional debut at the age of 18 years on October 18, 1979 against Phil Bowen. Mancini defeated Bowen via 1st round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Mancini got his first world-title fight at the age of 20 after 20 professional fights. On October 3, 1981 Mancini challenged Alexis Argüello's WBC and The Ring lightweight titles but lost via 14th round TKO.
He became a world champion on May 8, 1982 at the age of 21 years, after by defeating Arturo Frias, the then-reining WBA lightweight champion, via 1st round TKO. This was his 24th fight as a professional.
Mancini's last fight was a 7th-round TKO loss to Greg Haugen at age 31, on April 3, 1992.
