Agapito Sánchez (El Ciclon) is a 54-year-old retired Dominican professional boxer. He is a former super-bantamweight world champion. In a career spanning 15 years, 9 months, and 23 days, Sánchez amassed a record of 36-11-3, which includes 18 wins via KO, 1 of which was in a world-title fight.
Agapito Sánchez' Boxing Career
Agapito Sánchez was born in La Victoria, Dominican Republic on February 14, 1970. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 years on November 25, 1989 against Jose Perez. Sánchez defeated Perez via 1st round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Sánchez got his first shot at a world title at the age of 25 after 23 professional fights. On August 22, 1995 Sánchez challenged Marco Antonio Barrera's WBO super-bantamweight title but lost via 12-round unanimous decision.
He became a world champion on June 23, 2001 at the age of 31 years, after by defeating Jorge Monsalvo, the then-reining WBO super-bantamweight champion, via 7th round KO. This was his 42nd fight as a professional.
Sánchez then went on to successfully win the IBF super-bantamweight world title as well.
Sánchez' last fight was a unanimous decision victory over Edison Torres at age 35, on September 17, 2005.
