Guzmán became a world champion at the age of 26 after 17 professional fights. He challenged Fabio Daniel Oliva for the vacant WBO super-bantamweight title and stopped Oliva in the 3rd of the 12-round fight, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully win the super-featherweight (WBO) titles also to become a two-division world champion.
