Joan Guzmán's Boxing Career

Joan Guzmán was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on May 1, 1976. He made his professional debut at the age of 21 years on September 23, 1997 against Juan Miguel Rivera. Guzmán defeated Rivera via 2nd round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.

Guzmán became a world champion at the age of 26 after 17 professional fights. He challenged Fabio Daniel Oliva for the vacant WBO super-bantamweight title and stopped Oliva in the 3rd of the 12-round fight, winning his first world title.

He then went on to successfully win the super-featherweight (WBO) titles also to become a two-division world champion.

Guzmán's last fight was a 5th-round TKO victory over Kevin Carter at age 38, on October 31, 2014.
