Micky Ward was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, U.S. on October 4, 1965. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 years on June 13, 1985 against David Morin. Ward defeated Morin via 1st round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Ward got his first shot at a world title at the age of 31 after 37 professional fights. On August 9, 1997 Ward challenged Vince Phillips' IBF super-lightweight title but lost via 3rd round TKO. Ward never got a world-title shot again.
Ward's last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Arturo Gatti at age 37, on June 7, 2003.
