James McGirt (Buddy) is a 60-year-old retired American professional boxer. He is a two-weightclass world champion with 2 world-title wins. In a career spanning 14 years, 10 months, and 19 days, McGirt amassed a record of 73-6-1, which includes 48 wins via KO, 2 of which were in world-title fights. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 2019.
Buddy McGirt was born in Brentwood, New York, U.S. on January 17, 1964. He made his professional debut at the age of 18 years on March 2, 1982 against Lamont Haithcoach. The fight ended in a draw.
McGirt became a world champion at the age of 24 after 38 professional fights. He challenged Frankie Warren for the vacant IBF super-lightweight title and stopped Warren in the 12th of the 15-round fight, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully win the welterweight (WBC) titles also to become a two-division world champion.
McGirt's last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Darren Maciunski at age 33, on January 21, 1997.
