Phillip N'dou was born in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, South Africa on May 4, 1977. He made his professional debut at the age of 20 years on September 11, 1997 against Nigel Leake. N'dou defeated Leake via 2nd round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
N'dou got his first shot at a world title at the age of 26 after 32 professional fights. On November 1, 2003 N'dou challenged Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s WBC lightweight title but lost via 7th round TKO. N'dou never got a world-title shot again.
N'dou's last fight was a 10th-round TKO loss to Ntuthuko Memela at age 38, on February 26, 2016.
