Wilfredo Méndez was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico on November 10, 1996. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 years on July 9, 2016 against Jean Carlos Molina. Méndez defeated Molina via 2nd round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Méndez became a world champion at the age of 22 after 14 professional fights. He challenged Vic Saludar for the WBO strawweight title and defeated the champion via 12-round unanimous decision, winning his first world title.
