Maselino Masoe was born in Apia, Western Samoa on June 6, 1966. He made his professional debut at the age of 30 years on March 30, 1997 against Falegana Fale Collins. Masoe defeated Collins via 1st round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Masoe became a world champion at the age of 37 after 27 professional fights. He challenged Evans Ashira for the vacant WBA (Regular) middleweight title and stopped Ashira in the 2nd of the 12-round fight, winning his first world title.
