Francesco Damiani was born in Bagnacavallo, Emilia-Romagna, Italy on October 4, 1958. He made his professional debut at the age of 26 years on January 5, 1985 against Allou Gobe. Damiani defeated Gobe via 3rd round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Damiani became a world champion at the age of 30 after 23 professional fights. He challenged Johnny du Plooy for the WBO heavyweight title and stopped the champion in the 3rd of the 12-round fight, winning his first world title.
Damiani's last fight was an 8th-round TKO loss to Oliver McCall at age 34, on April 23, 1993.
