Mickey Bey was born in Cleveland, Ohio, U.S. on June 27, 1983. He made his professional debut at the age of 21 years on April 29, 2005 against Shane Gierke. Bey defeated Gierke via 1st round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Bey became a world champion at the age of 31 after 23 professional fights. He challenged Miguel Vázquez for the IBF lightweight title and defeated the champion via 12-round split decision, winning his first world title.
