Danny Lopez was born in Fort Duchesne, Utah, U.S. on July 6, 1952. He made his professional debut at the age of 21 years on July 31, 1973 against Ushiwakamaru Harada. Lopez defeated Harada via 3rd round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Lopez became a world champion at the age of 24 after 15 professional fights. He challenged David Kotey for the WBC featherweight title and defeated the champion via 15-round unanimous decision, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully win the The Ring featherweight world title as well.
Lopez' last fight was a 2nd-round KO loss to Jorge Rodriguez at age 39, on February 27, 1992.
