Johnny Tapia (Baby-faced Assassin) was an American professional boxer. He was a three-weightclass world champion with 5 world-title wins. In a career spanning 23 years, 2 months, and 7 days, Tapia amassed a record of 59-5-2, which includes 30 wins via KO, 6 of which were in world-title fights. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 2017.
Johnny Tapia was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, U.S. on February 13, 1967. He made his professional debut at the age of 21 years on March 28, 1988 against Efren Chavez. The fight ended in a draw.
Tapia became a world champion at the age of 27 after 27 professional fights. He challenged Henry Martínez for the vacant WBO super-flyweight title and stopped Martínez in the 11th of the 12-round fight, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully conquer the bantamweight (WBA, WBO) and featherweight (IBF) divisions as well to become a three-division world champion.
Tapia's last fight was an unanimous decision victory over Mauricio Pastrana at age 44, on June 4, 2011.
