Boxing Career
Juan Urango was born in Montería, Córdoba, Colombia on October 4, 1980. He made his professional debut at the age of 21 years on April 30, 2002 against Efrain Sotomayor. Urango defeated Sotomayor via 2nd round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Urango became a world champion at the age of 25 after 17 professional fights. He challenged Naoufel Ben Rabah for the vacant IBF super-lightweight title and defeated Rabah via 12-round unanimous decision, winning his first world title.
Urango's last fight was a 5th-round KO victory over Oney Valdez at age 31, on September 14, 2012.
