Matthew Hatton was born in Stockport, Cheshire, United Kingdom on May 15, 1981. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 years on September 23, 2000 against David White. Hatton defeated White via 4 round points decision, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Hatton got his first shot at a world title at the age of 29 after 47 professional fights. On March 5, 2011 Hatton challenged Canelo Álvarez' WBC super-welterweight title but lost via 12-round unanimous decision. Hatton never got a world-title shot again.
Hatton's last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Chris van Heerden at age 31, on March 2, 2013.
