Mike Weaver's Boxing Career

Mike Weaver was born in Gatesville, Texas, U.S. on June 13, 1951. He made his professional debut at the age of 21 years on September 14, 1972 against Howard Smith. Weaver lost to Smith via 3rd round KO. Not a good start!

Weaver got his first shot at a world title at the age of 28 after 27 professional fights. On June 22, 1979 Weaver challenged Larry Holmes' WBC heavyweight title but lost via 12th round TKO.

He became a world champion on March 31, 1980 at the age of 28 years, after by defeating John Tate, the then-reining WBA heavyweight champion, via 15th round KO. This was his 31st fight as a professional.

Weaver's last fight was a 6th-round TKO loss to Larry Holmes at age 49, on November 17, 2000.
