Davey S. Moore (Springfield Rifle) was an American professional boxer. He was a featherweight world champion. In a career spanning 9 years, 10 months, and 10 days, Moore amassed a record of 59-7-1, which includes 30 wins via KO, 4 of which were in world-title fights.
Davey S. Moore was born in Lexington, Kentucky, U.S. on November 1, 1933. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 years on May 11, 1953 against Willie Reece. Moore defeated Reece via 6-round unanimous decision, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Moore became a world champion at the age of 25 after 42 professional fights. He challenged Hogan Bassey for the The Ring featherweight title and stopped the champion in the 13th of the 15-round fight, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully win the WBA featherweight world title as well.
Moore's last fight was a 10th-round RTD loss to Sugar Ramos at age 29, on March 21, 1963, in which he was fighting for the undisputed featherweight world championship and lost his WBA and The Ring titles.
