Barney Ross was an American professional boxer. He was a two-weightclass world champion with 3 world-title wins. In a career spanning 8 years and 9 months, Ross amassed a record of 74-4-3, which includes 22 wins via KO. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 1990.
Barney Ross was born in New York City, U.S. on December 23, 1909. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 years on August 31, 1929 against Ramon Lugo. Ross defeated Lugo via 6 round points decision, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Ross became a world champion at the age of 23 after 48 professional fights. He challenged Tony Canzoneri for the The Ring lightweight title and defeated the champion via 10-round majority decision, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully win the welterweight (The Ring) titles also to become a two-division world champion.
Ross' last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Henry Armstrong at age 28, on May 31, 1938, in which he lost his The Ring welterweight title.
