Boxing Career
Simpiwe Vetyeka was born in Mdantsane, South Africa on December 24, 1980. He made his professional debut at the age of 21 years on January 11, 2002 against Lundi Mbozi. Vetyeka defeated Mbozi via 4 round points decision, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Vetyeka got his first shot at a world title at the age of 26 after 16 professional fights. On May 3, 2007 Vetyeka challenged Hozumi Hasegawa's WBC bantamweight title but lost via 12-round unanimous decision.
He became a world champion on December 6, 2013 at the age of 32 years, after by defeating Chris John, the then-reining WBA (Undisputed) featherweight champion, via 6th round RTD. This was his 28th fight as a professional.
