Alfonso Zamora was born in Mexico City, Mexico on February 9, 1954. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 years on April 16, 1973 against Heraclio Amaya. Zamora defeated Amaya via 2nd round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Zamora became a world champion fight at the age of 21 after 20 professional fights. He challenged Soo-Hwan Hong for the WBA and The Ring bantamweight titles and stopped the champion in the 4th of the 15-round fight, winning his first world titles.
