Rigoberto Álvarez was born in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, Jalisco, Mexico on January 20, 1978. He made his professional debut at the age of 22 years on February 1, 2000 against Ismael Rodriguez. Álvarez defeated Rodriguez via 1st round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
