    Masashi Kudo loses to Ayub Kalule

    On October 24, 1979, the 28-year-old WBA and The Ring super-welterweight world champion, Masashi Kudo (23-0, 12 KOs), faced a 25-year-old Ugandan boxer Ayub Kalule (30-0, 17 KOs), in a title defense fight.

    Kudo came in to the fight on a 23-fight win streak with a 52% KO rate, and was fighting after a gap of 4 months and 4 days. Kalule was on a 30-fight win streak with a 56% KO rate, and fighting after a layoff of 1 month and 18 days.

    Ayub Kalule defeated Masashi Kudo via unanimous decision and wins the WBA and The Ring titles — in his first world-title fight. Kalule improves his record to 31-0, while Kudo adds a loss to his record at 23-1.
