Gerry Peñalosa was born in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, Philippines on August 7, 1972. He made his professional debut at the age of 16 years on May 20, 1989 against Fidel Jubay. Peñalosa defeated Jubay via 5th round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Peñalosa became a world champion at the age of 24 after 37 professional fights. He challenged Hiroshi Kawashima for the WBC super-flyweight title and defeated the champion via 12-round split decision, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully win the bantamweight (WBO) titles also to become a two-division world champion.
Peñalosa's last fight was a 4th-round TKO victory over Anan Saeauy at age 38, on October 10, 2010.
