Boxing Career
Leonard Doroftei was born in Ploieşti, Romania on April 10, 1970. He made his professional debut at the age of 28 years on April 24, 1998 against Jerry Villareal. Doroftei defeated Villareal via 4-round unanimous decision, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Doroftei became a world champion at the age of 31 after 19 professional fights. He challenged Raul Horacio Balbi for the WBA lightweight title and defeated the champion via 12-round split decision, winning his first world title.
Doroftei's last fight was a 2nd-round KO loss to Arturo Gatti at age 34, on July 24, 2004, in which he was fighting for the WBC super-lightweight title.
