    On April 5, 1991, the 27-year-old WBA super-middleweight world champion, Christophe Tiozzo (28-0, 20 KOs), faced a 29-year-old Panamanian boxer Victor Cordoba (17-2-3, 13 KOs), in a title defense fight.

    Tiozzo came in to the fight on a 28-fight win streak with a 71% KO rate, and was fighting after a gap of 4 months and 13 days. Cordoba was on a 5-fight win streak with a 59% KO rate, and fighting after a layoff of 4 months and 13 days.

    Victor Cordoba stopped the champion via TKO in the 9th round of the 12-round world-title fight, winning the first world title of his career, and is crowned the new WBA super-middleweight champion. Cordoba improves his record to 18-2-3 (14 KOs), while Tiozzo adds a loss to his record at 28-1.
