On January 23, 2024, the 36-year-old WBA flyweight world champion, Artem Dalakian (22-0, 15 KOs), faced a 28-year-old Japanese boxer Seigo Yuri Akui (18-2-1, 11 KOs), in a title defense fight.
Dalakian came in to the fight on a 22-fight win streak with a 68% KO rate, and was fighting after a gap of 11 months and 26 days. Akui was on a 6-fight win streak with a 52% KO rate, and fighting after a layoff of 11 months and 19 days.
Seigo Yuri Akui defeated Artem Dalakian via unanimous decision and wins the WBA title — in his first world-title fight. Akui improves his record to 19-2-1, while Dalakian adds a loss to his record at 22-1.
